1. Purpose
This Product Security Policy sets out how NWT Australia ensures that all appliances we design, manufacture, and supply in Australia are safe, secure, and reliable. It outlines our approach to product safety, cybersecurity, compliance, and incident response to protect customers, partners, and stakeholders.
2. Scope
This policy applies to:
All appliances sold under the NWT brand in Australia.
Both connected (IoT/smart) and non-connected appliances.
Our employees, contractors, and suppliers who are involved in product design, manufacturing, distribution, and servicing.
3. Compliance and Standards
We are committed to complying with all applicable Australian regulations, including:
Electrical and product safety standards (e.g. AS/NZS 60335 series for household appliances).
Australian Consumer Law (ACL) obligations regarding product safety and warranties.
4. Product Security Principles
- Safety by Design – Products are designed and tested to meet or exceed relevant safety standards.
Cybersecurity by Design – For connected products, security is embedded into design and development (secure coding, encryption, authentication).
Supply Chain Security – We work only with trusted suppliers who comply with our quality and security requirements.
Secure Updates – Smart appliances receive timely firmware and software updates to address vulnerabilities.
Privacy Protection – Personal data collected by appliances is minimised, stored securely, and handled in compliance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
5. Vulnerability Management
We actively monitor for security vulnerabilities in our products.
Customers can report issues via support@nwt.com.au.
Verified vulnerabilities are assessed, prioritised, and remediated through updates or recalls if required.
We will notify affected customers and relevant regulators of significant security or safety issues as required by law.
6. Incident Response
In the event of a product security incident:
We will investigate and contain the issue.
Customers will be provided with clear guidance on mitigating risks.
If required, we will work with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), or other authorities.
7. Customer Guidance
We provide clear instructions to help customers use our products safely and securely, including:
Installation and operation manuals.
Safety and maintenance tips.
8. Privacy and Confidentiality
At NWT, we highly value the privacy and confidentiality of your information. When you report security vulnerabilities or issues to us, we commit to handling your personal information with the utmost standards.
- Privacy Protection: We assure strict protection of the reporter's personal information when processing security issue reports. Unless we obtain your explicit consent, we will not disclose your identity or contact information to third parties.
- Information Confidentiality: Concerning the security issues you report, we maintain strict confidentiality until the resolution of the problem. This measure is taken to prevent the spread of potential security threats.
- Data Security: We have procedures in place to protect collected data from unauthorised access, use , or disclosure.

- Legitimate Reporting: We encourage you to discover and report security vulnerabilities within legal boundaries and in adherence to appropriate ethical standards.
- Compliance: NWT insists on compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, expecting reporters to similarly abide by relevant legal requirements.
- Confidentiality Agreement: For specific security issues, we may request reporters to sign a confidentiality agreement to protect the non-disclosure of technical details until the problem is adequately resolved.
